It's happened to all of us ... no substance how cautious we are finally even our majority appreciated pipes will experience a ding, scrape or dent. You can take away most of these from your pipe with the following method. Just do it extremely cautiously. First, take a pin and dip it in cool water. Touch it to the ding so that some water fills the ding and no additional. Think of the ding as a swimming pool you are filling ... no matter how little. The water should be senior than the outside of the pipe. Let it soak in for a small number of minutes and be relevant once more if essential. Now take the tip one more pin and warmth it to red hot and stroke it to JUST the water and not the briar. This takes a very steady hand. The water should steam off very fast and the ding should be gone. The whole process might take an attempt or two so be enduring. If you put too much water and additional than it takes to "fill the pool" you could cook off some of the end. Not the end of the world if you do but you will have to rewax the pipe. I highly recommend that you try this technique and a small number of times on some "knock around" pipes until you get the hang of it.
